Merry Chirstmas, Kristen! I am so happy that you get to be with a family for the holidays. Hope all is well with school (If it makes you feel better, I thought I was going to get "staright A's" this semster, but I ended up with a couple of "minuses" oh well. No more grades after this.) Things are a bit hectic around here... I just moved back to Fort Wayne to student teach, and we're starting up wedding planning things again. Trust me, sqeezing an apartments full of stuff into a bedroom is no easy task. Oh dear. I am very excited to start teaching, tho. I have 2nd graders, and they couldn't be more wonderful. :0) Just thought that you might want some news about back home. Hopefully we get to talk to/ see you closer to or after Christmas, which we will be spending with your family. That's all for now!
Love and miss you! Emily

Kristen, I gave up on German in college when I got my first B's. I had had straight A's in German all throughout high school (including exams!). But when I took German 112 in college, I got a B. I thought they were going too fast (which was funny since I thought they went too SLOW in high school). I freaked out and decided I sucked. My German prof wanted me to at least minor in German, but I kept telling her that I wasnt very good at it and I never took another class. Imagine that! Most people would be happy with a B, but to me, it was failure in German. Plus, I think I went through what you were going through on some level. We had labs where we had to speak all in German and I freaked out about how bad I was at doing it. I wasnt stuck in Germany, though, where I couldn't get away from the German once the class was over.
I've been to Germany and I know that despite what people tell you about them knowing English, there are not as many as the average American thinks who can speak fluent English outside of the big cities (Italy was even worse--I totally had trouble communicating with people in ROME, which is the BIGGEST CITY in Italy, but so few people seemed to know English there!)
Anyway, hang in there, girl. You seem to have a lot of the self-confidence issues I myself have. It's kept me from doing a great many things I've wanted to do but was afraid of my incompetance and failure (including trying to get something of writing published). Don't let the overconfidence overwhelm you or you'll be lost at 33 like I am. Not that that's bad, but at this age, I'm a little tired of still trying to find myself. It seems a bit childish when you're as old as I am. And I think that at your age the opportunities are more available.
Arg. Listen to me. I sound as though I'm 50 trying to start my life over. Ignore that. I think I'm just having a mid-life crisis. Anyway, hang in there, k?

Urg, trade "overconfidence" for "under-confidence."

No teacher knows everything about what they teach. You just need to know a lot more than the students, which is usually a low bar.
So, chillax. Stop and smell the Subway.
Oh and the Baby Jesus things reminds me of Talledaga Nights.

You should know that today I was at Melt and saw a beer tap that said Krampus on it. I thought of you immediately and told Andy about Krampuslauf!
